Career Firefighter Opportunities

Cecil Township is seeking motivated and qualified candidates to apply for firefighter positions within our department. If you are ready to take on a challenging and rewarding career that serves the community, read on for application requirements and details about our hiring process.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for employment as a firefighter with Cecil Township, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Certification: Possess a Pro-Board Firefighter-1 Certification.
  • Emergency Medical Certification: Hold a Pennsylvania EMT-B Certification.

Additional Requirements for New Hires

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Hired applicants will have six months from their date of hire to obtain a Class-B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements. Training for the CDL will be provided by the department.
  • Fire Inspector-1 Certification: Preferred candidates should obtain their Fire Inspector-1 certification within one year of hire. We will accept the new Fire Inspector program released in 2025.

Application Process

Interested candidates must apply exclusively through our online application system. The following steps will be part of the selection process:

1. Online Application Submission: Complete your application through our designated portal.

2. Testing: Applicants will be invited to complete two crucial assessments: 

  •    Physical Agility Test: Candidates must successfully complete a physical agility test. The physical agility test document is available by Clicking here.
  •    Written Test: A written examination will cover the Firefighter-1 curriculum.

3. Oral Interview: Those who pass both the physical agility and written tests will proceed to the oral interview process.

4. Background Check: Final candidates will undergo an extensive background check to ensure suitability for the position.

5. Appointment: The final recommendation will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for approval.
